Ahhhh, summer. The days are longer, the sun is shining, and the year is halfway over! What better time to recommit to some goals, create new ones and to make the conscious decision to start forming new habits (many of which you can carry into the fall and winter!).
Read on for eight gr8 healthy habits to start this summer, and as always, stay #hungryforgr8ness!
1. Set One Small Monthly Goal
Choose a small goal that is attainable on a daily basis for one entire month. It can be something as simple as choosing to meditate every morning for one month, running a mile every day, or creating your own morning routine. This intentional action is a great way to form positive habits, upgrade your lifestyle and leave you feeling proud of your accomplishment at the end of each month!
2. Eat More Fresh Produce
Fill your plate up with fresh, seasonal items like peaches, apricots, blueberries, blackberries, cherries, corn on the cob, green beans, tomatoes, jackfruit and more. Visit your local farmer’s market to support your local community while eating your colors, and check out our blog about the benefits of a plant-based diet!
3. Use Sun Protection
If you don’t use one already, find a facial moisturizer with sun protection that works for your skin. Protecting your skin is vital during the summer months, but it's a great habit to maintain year-round since the rays can still be strong in the winter!
4. Spend Time Outdoors
Hike, hit the beach, go for a walk, visit local parks and more – make time to get a breath of fresh air and enjoy the warm weather that summer brings.
5. Plant Your Own Garden
Have a garden already? Add a new plant to your garden each month! New to gardening? You can start small with herbs or simple fruits or veggies, then watch your future farm-to-table ingredients bloom before you.
6. Slow Down & Soak Up The Sun
Take the mindful step to SLOW DOWN, take breaks and soak up the sun! In the fast-paced days we live in, it’s pretty important to remind yourself not to get too caught up in the hustle, and to allow yourself to find peace in each day.
7. Start A Morning Workout Routine
Commit to a quick morning workout routine that you can complete from Monday to Friday. Whether you choose a 20 minute walk every day, or a rotating workout routine at the gym, use these warm summer months to make the conscious effort to start your days with your body in motion.
8. Eat A Meal Outdoors Once A Week!
Picture this: The sun is slowly setting, a cool breeze is blowing, and you can smell the warm summer air. You dig into a healthy, colorful, farm-to-table meal with a refreshing drink. Sounds pretty amazing, doesn’t it? Whether you’re cooking up a home-cooked meal, ordering take-out, or taking your lunch break from work, we suggest you try to eat at least one meal outdoors each week.
