Matcha and Turmeric Superfood Energy Balls

We also added a few extra scoops of superfood powders (matcha and turmeric) because we love turning up the health benefits whenever we can. Matcha has been used for centuries to promote brain and heart health, reduce inflammation, and promote clear skin. While it does contain caffeine, it doesn’t dehydrate you the way caffeine in coffee does, nor does it have the same jittery effect!

Turmeric is another superfood with a long-standing history of medicinal use. It’s a great traditional skincare treatment, has multiple anti-cancer properties, fights inflammation and has potent antioxidant properties. What’s not to love?

Turmeric and Matcha Protein Energy Bites

Makes 24 healthy energy balls

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Matcha Green Tea or Golden Turmeric gr8nola
  • 1 cup raw walnuts or cashews
  • 1 cup pitted dates, soaked in warm water for 5 minutes
  • 1 Tbsp. matcha powder, or 1 Tbsp. turmeric powder, depending on gr8nola flavor used
  • 2 tsp. maca powder (optional, but provides great energy)
  • ½ cup mini dairy-free chocolate chips or cacao nibs (optional)
  • Optional toppings: desiccated coconut flakes, chopped nuts, cacao nibs or extra gr8nola for rolling

Directions

  1. In a food processor, combine gr8nola flavor of choice and 1 cup raw nuts. Blitz together until you reach desired consistency.
  2. Add the soaked dates, matcha or turmeric powder and maca powder (if using) to the food processor. Blend until all ingredients are combined and formed a sticky, cohesive ball. If the mixture is too dry or crumbly, add a tablespoon of melted coconut oil. If it’s too wet, you can add more gr8nola or a few tablespoons of almond flour. The mixture should be easy to roll together to form balls.
  3. If desired, add chocolate chips or cacao nibs, using a spoon to fold the chips in.
  4. Using a tablespoon, measure equal amounts of the mixture and use your hands to roll into balls. Place the balls on a plate or cookie sheet. For added crunch and flavor, roll the energy bites in dessicated coconut or other toppings!
  5. Store covered at room temperature for 1 week, or freeze for up to a month.
